+ In our comprehensive door-to-door survey conducted in January 2013 by a visiting undergraduate student from Bowdoin College (ME, USA) and the Lone Tree Institute local staff members, we asked Palo Solo’s 39 families how each disposed of their solid waste garbage.

While they don’t generate much solid waste, families are effectively forced to burn, bury or discard their solid garbage, each usually near their homes, because they have no trash collection options. There’s opportunity to encourage recycling, which could also generate income.
